Samuel's father was Thomas Warburton and his mother was Sarah Dod. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, George, William, Thomas, Peter, James, Joseph, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He was the fifth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 49 in September 1848 in Great Boughton.²
