Joseph's father was Thomas Warburton and his mother was Sarah Dod. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, George, William, Thomas, Samuel, Peter, James, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 64 in December 1874 in Shocklach.  He was buried on January 1st, 1875 in Shocklach.²
