Mary was born in 1851 in Aldford.¹ Mary's father was Robert Thomas and her mother was Mary Roberts. Her maternal grandparents were Philip Roberts and Mary Phythian. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Phillip, Joseph and Margaret. She was the second youngest of the five children. She died at the age of 72 in 1923 in Chester.²
