Gladys' father was Henry James Tait and her mother was Alice Dyer Atkins.  Her paternal grandparents were William Tait and Jane Gawthorpe; her maternal grandparents were John Hind Atkins and Sarah Emily Dyer. She had two brothers and a sister, named Harry, Arthur and Lily.  She was the youngest of the four known children.
