Janet was born in 1898.  Janet's father was Thomas Sixsmith and her mother was Harriet Jane Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry Mather and Deborah Crompton. She had a brother and a sister, named William and Lily.  She was the youngest of the three children.
