Edwin was born in 1826 in Longwood.1  Edwin's father was George Shaw and his mother was Mary Ann Stocks. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Sarah and Jane.  He was the oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 68 in January 1894 in Huddersfield.
