Stanley's father was Thomas Osbourn Pickles and his mother was Margaret McDowell.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Osbourn Pickles and Isabella Wood. He had two brothers and a sister, named Anthony, Alan and Violet.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 64 in 1984.
