Helen, known as Ellen, was born on July 27th, 1821 in Over Darwen and her baptism took place on October 9th, 1821 at St. Paul (Blackburn).1  Ellen's father was John Orrell and her mother was Sally Lord. She had three sisters named Jane, Sarah and Alice.  She was the oldest of the four children.
