Catharine was born on February 24th, 1862 in Uelzen and her baptism took place there on March 2nd, 1862.1  Catharine's father was Júrgen Heinrich Niemann and her mother was Catharine Dorothee Elisabeth Busse.  Her paternal grandparents were Júrgen Ludolph Niemann and Catharine Dorothea Niemann. She had four sisters named Catharine, Catharine, Catharina and Catharine.  She was the youngest of the five children.
