Catharine was born on February 24th, 1862 in Uelzen and her baptism took place there on March 2nd, 1862.1  Catharine's father was Jürgen Heinrich Friedrich Niemann and her mother was Catharine Dorothee Elisabeth Busse.  Her paternal grandparents were Jürgen Ludolph Niemann and Catharine Dorothea Niemann. She had two sisters named Catharina and Catharine.  She was the youngest of the three children.
