Catharine was born on February 2nd, 1854 in Uelzen and her baptism took place there on February 12th, 1854.1  Catharine's father was Júrgen Heinrich Niemann and her mother was Catharine Dorothee Elisabeth Busse.  Her paternal grandparents were Júrgen Ludolph Niemann and Catharine Dorothea Niemann. She had four sisters named Catharine, Catharine, Catharina and Catharine.  She was the fourth oldest of the five children.
