George's father was George Alexander Murray and his mother was Elizabeth Emma Egan. He had two sisters named Elizabeth and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Reginald, Elsie, Frances and Mabel.  He died at the age of 99 in December 1998 in Essex.²
