Ellen's father was George Alexander Murray and her mother was Elizabeth Emma Egan. She had a brother and a sister, named George and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Reginald, Elsie, Frances and Mabel.  She died at the age of 95 in May 1998 in London.²
