William was born in December 1733 in Outwood and his baptism took place on December 25th, 1733 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  William's father was James Mather and his mother was Susannah Mather. He had two brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Alice, Elizabeth and Grace.  He was the youngest of the six children.
