William was born in 1824 in Manchester and his baptism took place on July 18th, 1824.1  William's father was Willoughby Mather and his mother was Dinah Parker. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Alice, Eliza and Catherine.  He was the third oldest of the six known children.
