Thomas was born on August 26th, 1813 in Mellor and his baptism took place on November 21st, 1813 in Blackburn.1 2  Thomas' father was John Mather and his mother was Betty Mather. He had two brothers named George and James.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 83 in 1896 in Blackburn.3
