Samuel was born in 1764 in Manchester and his baptism took place on August 28th, 1764 in Cross Street (Presbyterian).1  Samuel's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Robinson. He had a brother and a sister, named Nathaniel and Alice.  He was the youngest of the three known children.
