Nathaniel's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Robinson.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Joanna Hilton. He had two brothers and a sister, named Nathaniel, Samuel and Alice.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 1 in February 1753 in Manchester.  He was buried on February 11th, 1753 at Manchester Cathedral.²
