Percy's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Alice Holden. His paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Joanna Grey. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Harold, Tom, Norman, Annie and Alice. He died at the age of 1 in 1895 in Halliwell. His burial was in 1895 at St. Peter (Halliwell).
