Maria was born on January 3rd, 1856 in Manchester and her baptism took place on February 11th, 1856 at Manchester Cathedral.1  Maria's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Roberts.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Maria Yates. She had two brothers named James and George.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died at the age of 14 in March 1870 in Manchester.
