Jeffery was born on July 16th, 1787 in Hindley and his baptism took place there on July 16th, 1787.1  Jeffery's father was Jeffery Mather and his mother was Ann Coop. He had a brother and two sisters, named Simon, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the four known children.
