Elizabeth was born in September 1819 in Warrington and her baptism took place on September 26th, 1819 at St. Elphin (Warrington).¹

Elizabeth's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Molyneux. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Mary Morris. She had a sister named Mary. She was the older of the two children.
