Colin, known as Cast Iron, was born in 1788 in Montrose and his baptism took place there on September 8th, 1788.1  Cast Iron's father was Colin Mather and his mother was Ann Allan. He had three brothers and two sisters, named James, James, William, Isabel and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 47 in March 1835 in Salford.2
