Mary was born in March 1846 in Great Lever and her baptism took place on March 22nd, 1846 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was Benjamin Lomax and her mother was Alice Horridge. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Jane and Alice.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
