Ellen's father was Ralph Isherwood and her mother was Mary (Molly) Waddicar. She had three brothers and a sister, named Ralph, James, Christopher and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the five known children.  She died as an infant at 10 months old in April 1830 in Entwistle.  She was buried on April 20th, 1830 at St. Anne (Turton).²
