Clara was born in 1867 in Armley.¹ Clara's father was John Ickeringill and her mother was Martha Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Ickeringill and Phoebe Wright. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George, Isaac, William, Sarah and Annie. She was the oldest of the six children.
