    • In 1826 James  had a bastard child born upon the body of Alice Hartley of Chorley and was ordered to pay 1s 6d per week (plus other costs) towards her maintenance.  He married her two years later.
Alice was born in 1802 in Chorley.1  She died at the age of 66 on August 30th, 1868 in Bolton.  She was buried in 1868 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.2 2

‌Alice and James were married in a religious ceremony on December 3rd, 1828 at St. Peter's (Bolton).5  They had a son and five daughters, named Wright, Hannah, Betsy, Mary, Alice and Emma.
