Joseph was born in 1772 in Shocklach and his baptism took place there on March 1st, 1772.1   Joseph's father was John Harris and his mother was Mary Hopley.  His maternal grandparents were John Hopley and Sarah Harris. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the three children.
