Margaret was born in March 1903 in Kent.1  Margaret's father was Rev David Bickerton Elwell Hale and her mother was Elizabeth Hunter.  Her paternal grandparents were Rev David Bickerton Hale and Emma Campkin. She had a sister named Mary.  She was the younger of the two children.
