Emma's father was William Henry Haigh and her mother was Elizabeth Eastwood. Her maternal grandparents were John Eastwood and Martha Shaw. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Simeon, Eli, Joe, William, Sophia and Sarah. She was the oldest of the seven known children.
