Sarah was born in 1817 in Bolton and her christening took place on March 16th, 1817 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Sarah's father was Thomas Grundy and her mother was Mary Mather (tbc).  Her paternal grandparents were John Grundy and <unknown>. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Mary and Betty.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
