John was born in October 1598 in Guiseley and his baptism took place there on October 8th, 1598.1  John's father was William Grimshaw and his mother was Sibbell Marshall. He had two brothers and a sister, named Christopher, Benjamin and Mercy.  He was the oldest of the four children.

‌John and Anne were married in a religious ceremony on May 23rd, 1626 in Guiseley.2  They had three daughters named William, Mercy and Mary.
