Betty was born in 1834. Betty's father was Thomas Grace and her mother was Ann Norcross. Her paternal grandparents were Leigh (Lee) Grace and Mary Hunter; her maternal grandparents were John Norcross and Mary. She had three sisters named Nancy, Mary and Alice. She was the second youngest of the four known children.
