John's father was Hugh Gardener and his mother was Jane Whitlowe. He had three sisters named Elizabeth, Jane and Anne.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 18 in February 1630 in Broxton.  He was buried on February 13th, 1630 at St. Boniface (Bunbury).¹
