Emma's father was Samuel Fidler and her mother was Ann Hill. Her paternal grandparents were George Fidler and Ann Fidler. She had four brothers and three sisters, named George, Isaac, Samuel, Joe, Sarah, Martha and Elizabeth. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 3 in 1859 in Hazel Grove.
