Katharine was born on May 4th, 1866 in Hannover and her baptism took place there on May 4th, 1866.1  Katharine's father was Georg Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and her mother was Katharine Dorothee Wedemann.  Her paternal grandparents were Johann Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and Catharina Magdalena Bockelmann. She had a brother and two sisters, named Georg, Emma and Wilhelmine.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had a half-sister named Anna.  She died at the age of 65 on May 16th, 1931.2
