Henry was born in 1821 in Rawtenstall and his baptism took place on June 1st, 1823 in Goodshaw.1 2  Henry's father was James Cunliffe and his mother was Sarah Lord. He had a brother and a sister, named Jane and Peggy.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named John, Betty and Sarah.  He died at the age of 55 in December 1876 in Haslingden.3

‌Henry and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on February 15th, 1841 in Haslingden.5  They had nine sons and five daughters, named James, Lord, John, John , John, James, Henry, Joseph, Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Ann and Mary.
