Mary's father was Thomas Crow and her mother was Martha Ellen Seymour. Her paternal grandparents were William Francis Crow and Elizabeth Liversidge. She had two brothers and four sisters, named James, John, Annie, Ellen, Emma and Elizabeth. She was the second oldest of the seven children.
