Jane was born in 1838 in Hawarden.1  Jane's father was Joseph Crofts and her mother was Barbara Lewis. She had a brother and five sisters, named John, Anne, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary and Martha.  She was the youngest of the seven known children.
