Mary was born in January 1864 in Godley and her baptism took place there on January 24th, 1864.1 2  Mary's father was Samuel Buckley and her mother was Ellen Wharton. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Wiliam, Alfred, Ada and Annie.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
