Hugh was born in 1857 in Oldham.1  Hugh's father was John Buckley and his mother was Sarah Taylor.  His paternal grandparents were George Buckley and Sarah (Sally) Andrews. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Eliza.  He was the second oldest of the three known children.
