Daniel was born in 1823 in Royston and his baptism took place on June 30th, 1822 at St. Peter (Oldham).1 2  Daniel's father was John Buckley and his mother was Sarah Lees. He had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Betty.  He was the oldest of the three children.

‌Daniel and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony in 1851 at St. Peter (Oldham).3  They had three sons and a daughter, named John, William, Albert and Mary.
