Thomas was born in 1532 in Brereton cum Smethwick.1   Thomas' father was Sir William Brereton and his mother was Lady Elizabeth Savage (nee Somerset).  His paternal grandparents were Sir Randle Brereton IV and Eleanor Dutton. He had a brother named Henry.  He was the older of the two children.
