Mary was born on December 18th, 1842 in Manchester and her baptism took place on December 11th, 1842 in Daresbury.1  Mary's father was William Brereton and her mother was Jane Turner.  Her paternal grandparents were Ralph Brereton and Alice Owen. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Martha and Jane.
