Charles was born in 1657 in St.Pierre de Lapoterie, Perche, France.  Charles' father was René Pierre Letartre and his mother was Louise Anne Goulet.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Goulet and Marie Chalumel. He had three sisters named Marie, Anne and Élisabeth.  He was the third oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 57 on June 25th, 1714 in L'Ange-Gardien, Montmorency, Qc.  His burial was on February 1st, 1712 in L'Ange-Gardien, Montmorency, Qc.
