Hazel was born in 1923.  Hazel's father was Harold George Bower and her mother was Blanche Mary Hewat.  Her maternal grandparents were Andrew Hewat and Elizabeth Usher. She has a brother and a sister, named Harold (Dux) and Joan.  She is the oldest of the three children.
