David was born in 1794.  David's father was Joachim Hendrik Martens and his mother is Hendrina Magdalena van der Merwe.  His paternal grandparents are Joachim Hendrik (Heinrich) Martens and Jacomina van den Berg. He had five brothers named Joachim , Paulus , Johannes, Nicolaas and Daniel.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  David is no longer alive.
