Lothair I's father is Louis I Charlemagne and his mother is Ermengarde of Ingerman.  His paternal grandparents are Charlemagne of Pepin III and Hildegarde de Gerold II; his maternal grandfather is Ingerman of Gunderland.  He is the third of six children.  He has two brothers and three sisters, named Louis II, Pepin I, Adelaide daughter, Hildegard daughter and Rotrud daughter.
