  Died.Jul 2, 1881at McConnelsville, OH) He was a preacher in the Campbellite Faith and a saddler by trade. In 1832 at Smithfield, Jefferson Co. OH he married Juliette Ann Hall (b. Sep 4, 1813 d. Apr 29, 1896) and they had 6 children, including William Vincent Dye.

  William married a Miss Crothers of Washington County Pennsylvania and then left. They had an unknown number of children but at least two boys. William McEntyre Dye (he preferred this spelling) graduated from West Point Military Academy in the same class with Philip Sheridan, He was in the Mexican War as a lieutenant and came out of the Civil War as a Brig. General. His book "Egypt and Abyssinia" was published in 1880 after spending several years serving with "Gordon". In approximately 1886 he received an appointment to reorganize the Korean Army. He married Ellen Rucker of Chicago and in 1922 had a daughter still living there. He is buried in the Rucker-Dye section of Graceland Cemetery in Chicago.
He died at the age of 91 in 1922.

  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He graduated from the U. S. Military Academy in 1853, served on the frontier with the 8th Infantry, was promoted 1st Lieutenant in 1856 and Captain, May 14, 1861. He became Colonel of the 20th Iowa Regiment, August 25, 1862, served in Missouri and Arkansas till 1863. In 1864, he led a brigade at Vicksburg and in the Red River campaign. He commanded a brigade at Mobile Bay, taking part in several expeditions, was acting assistant provost marshal general of Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Dakota in 1865. He was brevetted Brigadier General of Volunteers on March 13, 1865, for services during the war and promoted Colonel in the regular Army on April 9, 1865 for gallantry in the Mobile campaign. He served with the 4th Infantry, in various garrisons and on September 30, 1870, was honorably discharged at his own request. He entered the Egyptian Army late in 1873 and served as assistant to the chief of staff in the Abyssinian expedition, where he was wounded. He returned to the United States in 1879, was chief of police of the District of Columbia from 1883 to 1886 and was chief of the special examination division of the pension office in Washington in 1887. He also wrote a book detailing his experiences in Egypt titled, "Moslem Egypt and Christian Abyssinia, Military Service under the Khedive".
