Jane was born on April 26th, 1828.1   Jane's father was Maltby G. Hillyer and her mother was Irene Amoret Jewett.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Jewett and <Unknown>. She had a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Julia, Sarah and Sophia.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
