Jean Smets 
Jean was born on February 7th, 1816 in Lummen. Jean's father was Petrus Henricus (Hendrik) Gaethofs and his mother was Anna Catherina Smets. His paternal grandparents were Joannes Gaethofs and Catherina Vandebos (Vandenbosch); his maternal grandparents were André Smets and Marie Hélène Aerts. He had three brothers and a sister, named Ludovicus, Augustinus, Josephus and Antonette. He was the oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 62 on February 28th, 1878 in Lummen.-
